Gaze

Ai-Chen Lin

viewers' interaction

I have been interested in expressing the immediacy and simplicity of the human expression. Human interaction is complicated. It is random and accidental. It is hard to predict and constantly happening.

Making eye contact with strangers in public space is an instance of immediacy and spontaneity. Your eyeballs hunt for one movement that contains just the perfect angle that you can exchange a look with a stranger. Other times, when you look at someone who found out you have just looked at him/her, it becomes a awkward moment and you have to turn your head on the other side to pretend you did not look at them.

Gaze is an interactive installation, which aims to mimic human eye contact interaction. The viewers have to look at the screen to interact with the work and then the work will respond back to the viewer with an attentive gaze.
